STEPS TO ASKING THE FATHER-STEP 4:GUARD YOUR MIND

In the last piece, we reviewed the need to think positively when you have prayed. Refusing to allow what you see discourage or break down your prayer fervency. In this piece, I want to say a little about the next step. It is guarding your mind. Note the following key points:

1. Your mind is a battle field, you are responsible for guarding it. Your mind is what the devil want to use to confuse you. He is interested in distorting your mind in such a way that you begin to doubt the word of God as soon as you have presented that petition before God. He knows, once you doubt, all faithful expectations are gone. The bible teaches in James 1:6-8 'But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord. he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways' This is a very damning passage for anyone who doubts.

How does the devil attack your mind to doubt:

2. The devil will try to make you doubt God's word, by attacking you through observation, association and false teachings. Usually the stuff you observe are the things that may appear to you as the 'reality'. The things you see. Yes, you will see how difficult the economy is, how your currency is falling. So, the devil tells you, can't you see? Can't you see you are really and truly sick? If you accept what he is speaking to your mind, the bible says you are unstable.
He will create doubts by using who you associate with. Shun friends that will not enhance your faith. Stop mingling with people who have nothing well to say. The no-gooders. These associations will not strengthen your faith, rather it would cause you to doubt the work of God. If you stay long enough with such people, you will begin to confess negative stuff. What you say is powerful. When they say they are sick, you will say the same. But resist saying or confessing negative things. Is 33:24. 'and the inhabitants will not say "I am sick"
Also, the devil with bring wrong teachings. Such could come even from some pulpits, programmes and lectures that have no solid base. Do not allow them to enter into your psyche. They will mess your faith up and confuse you.
How do you fight such inhibitions:

3. Use relevant scriptures to fight the devil. Jesus did exactly this in Matthew 4, when he was drawn into the wilderness to be tempted. Jesus replied the devil every-time he suggested contrary routes to Him. Jesus would say: 'it is written' Matthew 4:4-10; and when the devil realised he could not mislead Him, or cause confusion in His mind, he left Him alone. Matthew 4:11

4. Stand on 2 Corinthians and Cast imaginations down; bring down everything that exalts itself against knowledge of God; and capture them by obedience in Christ.
What to fill your heart and mind with:

5. Renew your mind daily and fill your thoughts with good, virtuous, pure and praise-worthy things- Roman12:2; Phil 4:8; Ensure that your heart is pure. Titus 1:15. There are many great and wonderful things in this world that can bring you in glorious testimonies. Dwell on them.
