PRAYERS-4(B) CONFESSION

TOOLS OF CONFESSION

As we have tools for Adoration, we also have tools for confession. What are these tools:

1. An acceptance that we have sinned and a conviction that God has forgiven us. The obstacle to many people's breakthrough is not that they have not been forgiven by God, but that they cant believe that as bad as their sins are, God could forgive them. God is a merciful God. He says what he means and means what he says. Yes, those sins are bad, but for that reason he sent His only son, to die on the cross, so that we would not carry the burden of sin all over. You are cleansed and forgiven. Full Stop 1 John 1:8-10

2. Forgive others. There is no way we can receive forgiveness, if we refuse to forgive others, we are in bondage. It is no longer your sin that is holding you down, but your unforgiveness. Your bondage is self made. The parable of the King and the unforgiving servant is very apt. Having been forgiven a debt he could not pay, he went out and held his own friend by the neck, insisting on having a pound of flesh! Of course he was re-arrested and dumped in the jail with all his family. Someone said unforgiveness is taking poison and expecting someone else to die! Forgive others as God forgives you. And by the way, forget the hurts also. Bring everything to a bye-gone. Mt 18:22-35

3. A contrite and broken spirit. Ps 34:18 says the Lord is near to those who have a broken heart and saves such as have a contrite spirit. This is good news to the whole. God is looking for those who are broken, those who accept their fault and are ready to accept him as their Lord and personal saviour. In Pa 51:17, the psalmist says the sacrifices God is looking for is a broken and contrite heart. He's more interested in your humility than in your sacrifices. Accept today that your heart is far from him and show a poor and a contrite spirit and tremble at his words, it would amaze you how he will accept you back. Is 66:2. See the story of the prodigal son. He came to himself and changed his route and went home. The father forgave him as if he never left and threw a party for Him.Lk 15:11-31
Jesus loves you warts and all. Ask for forgiveness and he will forgive.

Blessings
