FUNDAMENTALS OF PRAYER-4(a) CONFESSION

Luke 11:4...forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.
Wonderful sentence and an important part of the Lord's prayer, and our own relationship with God.
When we pray, as we take the next step after worship, there is an expectation that worship leads to the presence of God. In His presence there is fullness of joy and at his right hands pleasures for ever more. However, this is a sensitive stage in which there is an expectation that nothing stands between us and Him. It is an opportunity to clear all weight and burden of sin. It is the stage of confessing our sins and forgiving others.

The Bible assures us that God is faithful to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9. It means you have the blood of Jesus granting you an everlasting ability and privilege to ask God for forgiveness and receive it. The blood has wiped away every handwriting of ordinances, and we have been made pure and whole.Col 1:13-14. Col 2:13-14

An unrepentant sin is a barrier to breakthrough in prayer. Hence in the Lord's Prayers, Jesus taught his disciples to ask God who sees all, knows all, to forgive us. No matter how big, deep or ugly your sin may be, a simple confession unto the Lord will cleanse you. The bible tells us in Is 1:18 that even if our sins be like a scarlet they shall be as white as snow, and if they be like crimson, they will be as wool.

Everyone has sinned. The bible says if we say we have no sin we call Him a liar, and there is no truth in us. Also the same bible says We have all fallen short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23. If God will mark iniquity, who can stand. Ps 130:3. So there is abundant evidence in the Bible that should encourage you to seek forgiveness in the place of prayer. Do not be condemned to the extent that you cannot appear before Him. In Heb 4:15-16 'For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathise with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need'
