LIFE WORTH DYING FOR...Part 2

Let’s look at Birth and Death against this background:

Birth: You did not choose where you were born neither to what parents, city, country, religion or whenever you were to be born. If you had a hand in it, some of you would not on your life ask to be born in Africa, may be in the USA, and not just in any city or any family. Some would like to be born in Hollywood, right in Tom Cruise’s family, and right on his bed!!; Maybe in Sean Connery’s BACK YARD. Or better still inside the four walls of Buckingham Palace, you would salivate on the paparazzi; don’t mind the I don’t like them attitude…It’s better than been born in ile-oluji; arochukwu; abatete; kanji, and the Baghdad and Darfur of modern day etc.

You also got it free. You just came to the world after someone’s labour and pain!! In fact, you with several billions of other would be individuals attempted the gasp for life, and you succeeded, and others were unfortunate, hence you came in with a cry and a whimper.

Death: You also have no hand in it. No one has died that has a hand in their death…now I know what you are thinking? I thought about it too…Suicide!! With suicide you thought about it; considered it; carried it through…HALFWAY, but you did not kill yourself, something else killed you….the knife; the noose; the train; the car; the pill; the poison etc. Have you ever seen anybody wish himself dead?? Like…I want to die…and you say to yourself die, you will say it for years and you still will not die!! You might have the meas rea (the mental ability), but no actues reaus (the actual/physical ability.
Death is terrifying because it is so ordinary. It happens all the time.
Susan Cheever quotes

It is also free! Dying is free; you don’t have to pay for it. No one pays to die. In fact someone is paid to kill or execute, but no one pays to die. So it’s free.

As against this background then, you cannot say that these two so called milestones in our lives are as significant as you might have portrayed them or they have made us to believe. As you also have no knowledge or memories of any of the two.

Why am I saying this, I am saying these because I want you to see the importance of the third dimension to our existence. I submit that there must be a third dimension, which above all is more significant than birth or death…What is that 3rd dimension….Permit to say without any iota of doubt that it is living, life itself.
Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live.
Norman Cousins

From the day you first made your first cry to the last day of breathing (just before you die). This period is the most significant, because it affects your birth and your death. It can change the two in such a dramatic way that your birth and your death will forever be celebrated or condemned. Let’s look at it again.

Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs are people who have come alive.

Howard Thurman quotes (American Theologian, Clergyman and Activist. 1900-1981)

Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyways."
Anonymous quotes

How you live your life will determine the legacy of your birth and death. If you live your life with wanton carelessness or irresponsible rascality, then be ready to suffer both spiritual and eternal death and physical too…mothers will say things like I regret the day he was born; or it’s rather better for her to die! However, if you live your life in a way that befits your sound beliefs and righteously, you are certain to have an assurance of joy at the end of time. People will say…yeah thank God for the day he was born. How blessed are the parents who brought him to this world…or what a pity for someone as good as him to die…as if beauty is an anecdote to death.

With this in mind, I turn to the book…the story of the man by the pool of Bethesda and his discourse with Christ represent for us a fantastic opportunity to look at our life (living) again, and check it out. It shows a starting point and an end point without ignoring the terrain and the challenges that we face as we journey on this side of the realm.

Our destiny is only fulfilled if we can find a way of living that will satisfy the One that sent us. In Jeremiah 1:5; the bible says God has sent us as prophets to the nations. We have a job description not achievable by the circumstances of our birth and impossible by our death, but only by our living…and in our life time. The ability to connect with that purpose is the fulfilment that every man and woman is looking for.

The passage also exposes man as having no hope of finding and fulfilling that purpose without Christ. The amazing hopelessness and wanton incapacity of man is so clear that except you have that definite contact with him and divinely so, you will be groping in the darkness of this world far away from your destiny. Such groping will take you nowhere.

We are all therefore faced with a journey that seems Herculean at birth (no wonder we all burst into unprecedented wailing at birth) and serene calmness, tranquillity and perfect peace at death, an indication of reality of death, and a conclusion that all is out of my hands). But we should not, because the word representing Christ should be our compass and our guide.

The usual suspects like the seven deadly sins (
Pride Envy Anger Slothfulness
Greed Gluttony Lust
) are obstacles and hurdles we need to cross, jump over, or get dis-entangled from, because they are basic necessities of our test and our life. The further usual suspects like mediocrity, plan-less ness, visionless and focus-less ness etc are further pitfalls that we need to watch out for. The further further usual suspects like lack of friendship, sanctimous ineptitude and pious irrelevancies, too holy, and holier than thou attitude are hard waters we need to dry our selves from.

The essential ingredients in resolving these challenges and crossing over the obstacles are areas of intellectual and spiritual discourse in my book, MAKE TAHT MOVE RIGHT NOW. I see life as if you are playing a chess game with the devil, he is a master chess player, but be assured; there is a hand bigger than his that is directing your game. That hand has a game plan before beginning began, well before the devil mastered his craft. He is a solver and master chess player. From the pawns of life, to the bishop of sensibilities, from the castles of opportunities to the defensive knight of the day and night, from the queen of beauty to the King of Kings, our Lord has won the game for you 2000 years ago. He is seated with you and wants to crown you once you begin to rely on him, and only him.

I cannot but refer to my book, MAKE THAT MOVE RIGHT NOW(available on Amazon.com)...which i recommend for a deeper meaning of one's purpose. The book is significant, poignant and obsessive in its desire to guide on that path. From the paralysis of self, to the communication of man’s irrelevant diatribes, compared to the effortless, simple and yet awesome panacea of Christ’s resolution are food for thoughts. These I believe are the flagship of the book, and I hope I have been able to capture the essence of life, and the at last put on the flickering light through the tunnel that leads only somewhere called hope; purpose and destiny. It is for you, the reader to add oil as you take the journey through the book, and find yourself and a starting point.

There is no doubt that questions will be asked, and of course answers would be attempted, but the most important focus of mine to you and for you is to succeed in finding the purpose for your life, and finding it quickly.

The End
